Wartburg was an East German automobile marque produced by VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach from 1956 to 1991. It was one of the most significant mid-range car brands in the German Democratic Republic, best known for its durable passenger vehicles and distinctive two-stroke engine technology, later replaced by a Volkswagen-licensed four-stroke engine in its final production phase. The brand ceased operations following German reunification in 1991.
