American Motors Corporation was a U.S. automobile manufacturer formed in the mid-1950s through the merger of Nash and Hudson. It built its reputation as a smaller independent automaker competing against the major Detroit companies by focusing on practical, innovative, and niche-oriented vehicles. Throughout its history, AMC produced a diverse lineup ranging from compact economy cars to performance models and early SUV-style vehicles before eventually being acquired by Chrysler.
